Have you ever scheduled a babysitter weeks in advance, confirmed the date, and triple checked she was able to come? Then one hour before your plans, she cancelled or even worse, never shows up?! Well, stress no more!! If you use TBC you will never have to worry about that issue ever again. We have hundreds of sitters, always on stand-by! That is just one out of the many reasons why you should use TBC!
Other Reasons…Always getting advice: If you ever need child care advice, babysitter advice, traveling advice, or just plain old advice, you can always count on TBC! Feel free to check out the blog (like my plug?), or call TBC at any time, because we are a 24/7 service.
If kids are sick from school: Our sitters understand that kids get sick, and that is why anti-bacterial gel is all of our best friends! If last minute you need a babysitter, because your child is home from school, just call TBC and we’ll send someone over! Usually, we can have a sitter anywhere in 1 hour!
You can use the same service in other cities/ countries: TBC is the ONLY service in so many cities run by the same management team, including Australia and Israel! All interviews are conducted by the owner, Rachel, so you can call her from anywhere and get the scoop on the best sitters in your area or the area that you are traveling to.
We have it all: Part time, full time, long term, after school, evening, occasional, corporate, convention, special event, special occasion, group, hotel/resort, mothers helper, summer, traveling, overnight, last minute, late night, and tutoring babysitters! Need a service that you don’t see here? Let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs!
24 hour service: Did I mention we are a 24 hour service? Yes, any time, any day we are here for you! The owner and management team are available 24/7 by phone, e-mail and even text! All sitters are also available by phone and they are always accessible while with your children. Many sitters are always available by text!

Traveling With a Babysitter
It’s that time of year again! Wait, who am I kidding? It’s always that time of year, time for a vacation!! Don’t forget your toothbrush, socks, bathing suit, and your babysitter!!! Yes, a babysitter is necessary when traveling with kids.
You know it is safe and legitimate when you use TBC services, because our sitters are completely background checked, drug tested, cpr certified and many are also lifeguards. Please visit www.thebabysittingcompany.com/babysitters for a full list of qualifications. You can even request a sitter that has experience traveling with families, or even a specific sitter that you know. If you are looking for someone in particular, you should try and give her some notice so she can plan accordingly. However, TBC recognizes we sometimes need to travel last minute, and we can accommodate those needs as well.
Having a babysitter on vacation (or business trip) with you, will allow for a more relaxing trip (as it should be). This past winter I traveled to Colorado with the family I nanny for. Time to time, the 3-year-old would be too tired to join the family for dinner. It was nice for them to have the peace of mind knowing that they could still go out and their child is safe and sound at the house (or hotel). Having a sitter also allows for adult time. After a long day of skiing, it was nice that the parents could go out together and enjoy the town. Overall, having a babysitter with you allows for a more flexible trip.
Parents: You should give your sitter a few hours off each day so she can have some privacy and alone time. This is important so the sitter doesn’t get overwhelmed and it shows her that you care. When I went to Colorado, I had free time during the day while the family was skiing. It was very relaxing, and exciting to get to see a new city!
Babysitters: If you are unsure about something, just ask! It is better to ask questions than to just assume. Ask what you should pack, as you never know what special events the family might have planned!
If you are a babysitter and have traveled with a family before, let us know how it went! If you are a parent and have traveled with a babysitter before, you should share your stories too!
If you have ANY questions, please post right here and I will write back ASAP!
Safe travels,
Elyssa and The babysitting Company

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with Kids
St. Patrick's Day is a holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor Ireland's, Saint Patrick. It is always celebrated on March 17th, with shamrocks, gold, rainbows, leprechauns, and lots of green! Even if you're not Irish, St. Patrick's Day is a fun holiday, that can be celebrated with kids.
To make March 17th special for your kids, you can wear green, cook special foods, play games, and make fun crafts.
To make March 17th special for your kids, you can wear green, cook special foods, play games, and make fun crafts.
For breakfast it is fun to make green eggs by using green food dye. You can also make shamrock cookies and have the children decorate the cookies with green icing and green sprinkles. Another special dessert is making yellow jell-o and putting it in a small black bowl. This will look like a pot of gold!
I remember when I was in elementary school, my teacher hid a little leprechaun figure and we had to try and find him. This was such a special treat, because we were so young and actually thought there was a little lucky leprechaun hiding somewhere from us. It was such a nice and exciting surprise for us when we came into school that day. This happened over 18 years ago and I still remember it!! This proves that celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and doing something special for your kids is important, because it can be so memorable. A variation of this game is, hiding the leprechaun, a shamrock, a pot of gold, etc. and turning it into a hot and cold game.
Some fun crafts include making rainbow bracelets or necklaces with colorful beads. Then the last bead can be the special lucky charm! You can also print pictures off the internet and have your little ones color them in, use glitter and stickers to make the picture extra unique.
Do you have a special St. Patrick’s Day memory like I did in elementary school? Feel free to write in and share! Also, write in and share your fun, festive ideas with us!!

February's Sitter of the Month
Congratulations to Brooke Weinbaum, TBC’s first Sitter of the Month (SOM)! SOM is someone who takes jobs often, works hard, follows the guidelines, promotes TBC, gets good reviews etc. Oh yea, and is an amazing babysitter!
Brooke has been working for The Babysitting Company for about six months and in that time she has made herself available at a moment’s notice. She has jumped right into being one of the busiest and most requested sitters. In addition, she has learned the guidelines inside and out.
A few weeks ago, Brooke was patient while a client was two hours late checking into the hotel. She stayed calm and even ordered milk for the baby upon their arrival.
“I am currently a junior at Florida Atlantic University and I’m majoring in Jewish Studies and Journalism. I have always loved children and I have been a camp counselor for seven years, the past four at sleep away camp. I am very responsible, loving, and fun. I am very creative and can think of many things to do whether we’re inside or outside. I enjoy traveling and trying new activities. My top priority when babysitting is always safety. I always want the kids to have fun, within reason, and enjoy their time playing while I am there. I love doing different activities with kids like playing games and going outside. I always want kids to feel comfortable around me and if there is a problem, they know they can come to me to help solve it. I understand the needs of all different types of children, as well as the needs of the parents. I am always enthusiastic about the different activities I’m doing with the children and try to make everything fun for them.” - Brooke
We are lucky to have Brooke as a part of our team! Please contact TBC if you would like to book Brooke as your sitter!

How to Be the Best Babysitter in the World!
Yes the world! Just take my advice, and you can be the best babysitter in the world! Why would you want to be a babysitter? I do it full time, but nonetheless it is an awesome part-time job too! It is a fun, loving, and good paying gig. If you do it right, you will have tons of jobs lined up. You will find jobs that are two hours after work/school, occasional weekends, some mornings, and full days. It is something you can do in your free time, and a great way to make some extra dough.
I have been babysitting for twelve years (I started as a mother's helper when I was 12-years-old, I'm not that old). So today I will blog what I have learned from my experience, so you can use it and be THE BEST BABYSITTER IN THE WORLD!
1) Get on the child's level: Literally, get down on your hands and knees and play with them! Like girls, kids just want to have fun. If you play with them, they will like you. It's that easy! If the children like you, then the parent(s) will like you and want you to come back.
2) Be loving yet stern: A child wants to be around someone who is caring, gentle, and loves them. However, you cannot let them take advantage of you. Learn to say no, and make sure to discipline the child. Trust me, children will still adore you if you discipline them, they need it.
3) Bring toys: Bring fun, age appropriate toys and games for the kids to play with. Kids get bored easily, yet they get excited easily too. If you bring new toys for them to play with, they will be so happy and might even forget mommy and daddy are leaving.
4) Be CPR and First Aid certified: Also, you need to have a background check and at least three references. If the parent doesn't know you, this proves that you are not a scary wacko and they can trust you with their most prized possession(s).
5) Leave your worries at the door: Happy babysitter equals happy child. Sometimes children can detect if you are in a bad mood, and that can put them in a bad mood. Plus, no one wants someone with issues watching their child. So PLEASE leave your problems behind. We all have them, and it's hard, but don't bring your worries to work. One of the reasons why I love working with kids is because they have no problems, and are just so joyful and happy. When I get to babysitting my problems just seem to disappear!
Also, try not to be hungry when you get to the house. Maybe this doesn't apply to everyone, but when I'm hungry I am miserable! Then it's awkward, can I eat their food? Do the kids have allergies? It's just not a good idea (unless the parents tell you to help yourself to anything, still a bit awkward). Just arrive with a full tummy.
6) Market yourself and TBC: Mommy's have friends!! If the parents love you, they will surely recommend you to their friends, which means more jobs for you (and request to have you back). So, be loved, it should be easy!
Babysitting is a unique job. You get close with families, closer than you would with a typical boss. I have babysat for several families that I have grown so close with that they felt like family to me! You can watch children grow and mature and it is truly an amazing thing (then at the end of the day they stay with their parents and you can enjoy your life)!
I hope all you babysitters out there benefited from my advice!
